Bellator 19 Quick Results

Posted in Cage Coverage, Local MMA News, MMA News Worldwide on May 21st, 2010 by CageCoverage

Bellator 19 took place in Texas last night, and we discovered who would be contesting this season’s welterweight final.

In the end, it went as many people had expected – Ben Askren and Dan Hornbuckle successfully navigated their semi-final match-ups to earn their spot in the final and put themselves within touching distance of a fight with current welterweight champion Lyman Good.

Askren’s rematch with Ryan Thomas featured no controversy this time round as he used his wrestling to control his opponent en-route to a unanimous decision victory. Meanwhile Hornbuckle once again demonstrated his ability to end fights quickly by requiring only 2 and a half minutes to finish Steve Carl by a kimura submission.

Elsewhere current featherweight champion Joe Soto made short work of challenger Diego Saraiva, landing a vicious elbow in the closing stages of the first round that forced a referee stoppage.

The full list of results from the main card below.

Main Card Results:

Joe Soto defeats Diego Saraiva via TKO (doctor’s stoppage) at 5:00mins of Rd1

Ben Askren defeats Ryan Thomas via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Moosin: God of Martial Arts This Friday

Posted in Cage Coverage, Local MMA News, MMA News Worldwide, Upcoming Fight Schedule on May 18th, 2010 by CageCoverage

Mariusz “Dominator” Pudzianowski, 5-time World’s Strongest Man, (6’1”, 275lbs.) will be taking on a super-heavyweight Tim Sylvia (6’8”, 300lbs.) who has an impressive 25-6-0 record.

Sylvia has defeated many of the top MMA heavyweights and super heavyweights – Andrei Arlovski (2) Brandon Vera, Jeff Monson, Wes Sims, Ricco Rodriguez, Mike Whitehead (2), Ben Rothwell and Jason Lambert. He believes that, if the Polish strongman and his team agreed to fight him this early in Pudzianowski’s MMA career, they must feel that he is over-the-hill in the cage.

In the co-main event, Korean heavyweight Mu Bae “The Heavy Tank of Busan” Choi (9-4-0) faces veteran Travis “Diesel” Wiuff (59-14-0). Brazilian middleweight Rafael “Sapo” Natal (11-2-0) meets The Ultimate Fighter 4 winner Travis “The Serial Killer” Lutter (10-5-0), while Bahamian lightweight Yves “The Texas Gunslinger” Edwards (37-15-1) tangles with rising New England star Mike Campbell (7-2-0).

A special female attraction features two of the premier women MMA fighters in the U.S., Tara LaRosa (18-1-0) and Roxy Modafferi (13-4-0), at a 130-pound catch-weight.

“God of Martial Arts” is being distributed by Integrated Sports Media at 9:00PM ET in North America on cable and satellite Pay-Per-View.

UFC’s Tito Ortiz Is Out of The Dog House & Back in The Octagon This Fall

Posted in Cage Coverage, Local MMA News, MMA News Worldwide, UFC News on May 14th, 2010 by CageCoverage

Editor’s note: When did TMZ get so involved in MMA?

0513_dana_white_tito_ortiz_tmz_getty_EX

Tito Ortiz is officially out of the doghouse with the man who signs his checks – UFC honcho Dana White — now that the D.A. has rejected possible criminal charges in that whole domestic violence arrest.

White — who had threatened to kick Tito’s ass to the curb if Jenna Jameson‘s accusations against the fighter turned out to be legit — tells TMZ that Ortiz will not face any punishment from the organization.

White added, “I’m cool with Tito … he’s still on our roster now … we’ll be looking to get him in the ring in October or November.”

After two weeks of arrests, fighting, restraining orders, press conferences, drug tests, hospitalizations and reconciliations, unmarried couple  Ortiz and  Jameson enjoyed a beautiful, peaceful day in Huntington Beach this weekend with their twins.

TMZ reported that the two spent Mother’s Day together — and Tito even splurged on a gift … “one of everything” from La Perla lingerie shop.
